Microsoft Founder and philanthropist Bill Gates took the top spot for the 21st year in a row on Forbes 400 richest Americans list with a net worth of $81 billion. Warren Buffett, Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway ranks second with a net worth of $67 billion, and Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is in third place with a $50 billion fortune. But in addition to these long-time heavyweights, 27 new names grace this year’s list, and Abram Brown, associate editor at Forbes, describes nearly all the newcomers as “self-made, entrepreneurial capitalists.”

The ranks of the world’s billionaires continue to scale new heights–and stretch to new corners of the world. Our global wealth team found a record 1,645 billionaires with an aggregate net worth of $6.4 trillion, also a record, up from $5.4 trillion a year ago. We unearthed 268 new ten-figure fortunes, including 42 new women billionaires, both also records. In total, there are 172 women on the list, more than ever before and up from 138 last year.

Officially: WhatsApp now part of Facebook

Los Angeles – The social networking site Facebook completed its R213-billion acquisition of the communication platform WhatsApp, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
The California-based company announced the $19 billion deal in February.
Facebook paid $12 billion in shares and $4 billion in cash. The deal also included an additional $3 billion in Facebook stock for WhatsApp founders and employees.
But Facebook shares have increased in value since February, making the deal worth about $21.8 billion.
On Friday, European Union regulators approved the merger.
United States regulators also approved the acquisition in April, but warned Facebook that it had to abide by WhatsApp’s stringent privacy practices.

7 year old Osemudiamen Abraham, the elder brother of Omonigho Abraham, (pictured above), who was attacked by two dogs on September 25th inside their compound at Adegboyega Street, Akesan Estate, in the Igando area of Lagos, has given account of how his little brother was attacked by the dogs and how onlookers including policemen stood there without trying to help the little boy.

Nurse tests positive for Ebola after treating Spanish priest Manuel Garcia Viejo who

A nurse who treated a victim of Ebola in Spain has tested positive for the killer virus.
The Spaniard is the first person known to have contracted the illness outside Africa during the current crisis.
The unnamed female health worker was a member of the team that treated the late Spanish priest Manuel Garcia Viejo in Carlos III hospital in Madrid.
He died from Ebola, which he caught while in Sierra Leone, on September 25.
Another Spanish priest, Miguel Pajares, died in August after contracting the virus in Liberia
To date, 3,400 people have died during this year's outbreak - the majority in West Africa - and there have been nearly 7,200 reported cases in all.

Energy department: SA still on nuclear power options

South Africa is still looking at different options to facilitate nuclear power in the country, energy department acting director-general Wolsey Barnard has said.
“[There have been reports] recently in the news around the signing of nuclear agreements, where South Africa is currently busy with the investigation phase to look at different nuclear technologies on offer from different countries and different entities,” he said at an Association of Municipal Electricity Utilities conference in Midrand.
“I just have to mention that nuclear is not per se just to insure the supply of electricity but it’s a programme to also supply other economic development.”
He said there were various options to ensure security of electricity supply in the country, including nuclear, gas, co-generation, and coal.

Alcileide Rodrigues dos Santos was conscious enough to describe the attack to the police after being found with the blade embedded in her skull.
The 22-year-old was left with the knife stuck just fractions of a inch over her right eye after allegedly being stabbed by her ex-boyfriend.

Pres. Jonathan GEJ: Terrorism has nothing to do with Islam

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday in Abuja restated that the activities of terrorist groups across the world had nothing to do with Islam.
The president stated this when a delegation of the Muslim community led by Vice President Namadi Sambo paid him Sallah homage at his official residence in the Presidential Villa.
Jonathan maintained that there was nothing Islamic about the atrocities being perpetrated by Boko Haram in Nigeria or Islamic State (ISIS) militants in Iraq who claimed to be fighting for the propagation of Islam.
“What is happening globally now has no religious basis. Only yesterday, a British aid worker was slaughtered by ISIS and that is not Islamic.
“Boko Haram killing innocent children and women in market places, in mosques and schools definitely has nothing to do with religion,” he said.
