Electricity Company Have Been given 7-Day Ultimatum - NLC

The Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, in Enugu State has been given seven days ultimatum by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in the South-East to recall the sacked unionists of the company without further delay.

This detail was made public on Thursday in a communiqué made available to newsmen after a one-day extra-ordinary meeting in Owerri, which was sanctioned by the chairmen and secretaries of the states involved.

According to the communiqué, the labour group warned the management of EEDC to desist from all attempts to engender industrial disharmony.

It also frowned at the deliberate effort of the EEDC management to de-unionize the company and warned that forms printed and distributed to members to fill for withdrawal of membership should be withdrawn.

It contended that such forms should be of no effect since unions were not organized and ran by management.
While reading the communiqué, the Chairman of the NLC in Imo State, Dr. Reginald Anyadike, urged the EEDC management to pay last quarter outstanding bulk rent and 2013 productivity bonus.

The congress also urged the company to effect payment of the negotiated statutory allowances, which according to the congress, the EEDC had refused to pay on the takeover of the company in November 2013.

“That refusal to allow the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) personnel entrance to address their members amounts to an affront and a deliberate effort to kill the union.

Therefore, the union should be allowed to address their members without any hindrance,” the communiqué added.
