A body has been found this morning close to where a human leg was discovered behind a village's Conservative club.
Cops have been searching near the Healey Conservative Club in Whitworth, near Rochdale, after a human leg was found yesterday afternoon.
Detectives confirmed this morning that the search resulted in the remainder of the body been found.
Inquires are now taking place to establish the identity of the victim.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, in a statement Lancashire Police said: “Police were called shortly before 2.45pm Sunday September 21 to a report that a member of the public had found a human leg on land behind Healey Conservative Club in Whitworth.
“Police searched the area to locate further body parts and the rest of the body was found nearby.
"Enquiries are on-going to establish the identify of the body.”
A man walking his dog made the grim find of the leg and alerted police.
It is not yet clear how long the leg has been there or whether it belonged to a man or a woman.
Customers in the traditional members’ club said they were aware of police activity earlier in the day.
One said: “We saw police in the area but didn’t know what was going on.”
The area where the grim discovery was made is on a hillside some distance behind the club.
