N400 Million for Housing Scheme Goes Missing in NLC


The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is currently embroiled in controversy over the alleged disappearance of N400 million, which is part of contributions of Nigerian workers for a housing project.

The money is part of the sum of N960 billion allocated for a mortgage scheme for Nigerian workers, Vanguard reports. Sources say the project is being spearheaded by a private company in collaboration with NLC leaders and a Greek national, and is aimed at providing houses for workers in the 36 states.

A mum-of-three is counting herself lucky after she suffered an incredible 29 heart attacks in just 24 hours.
Lucia Cassidy, 34, was rushing around caring for her children when she collapsed and suffered the first of her life-threating attacks.
Exhausted Lucia wasn't eating or drinking properly in the run up to the cardiac arrests. And after suffering from an upset stomach and sickness, she was rushed to hospital fighting for her life.
In the space of 24 hours Lucia's heart stopped 29 times and medical teams had to battle to get her heart started again - each time using the defibrillators to revive her.
She is now fighting fit, showing her strength in fitness competitions, after making an incredible recovery.
Lucia, from Edmonton, North London, said: "I just feel so lucky to be alive- people can't believe it when I tell them what happened.
"I didn't have any warning before the heart attacks happened and I didn't see it coming as I try to stay fit and healthy.
"I had my three boys one after the other and my main concern is being a good mother to my children. I was more concerned with looking after everybody else and I forgot about myself.
"I was always running around after the kids and I found myself too busy to eat or drink, I was just surviving off very little.

Political campaigns have begun and the first casualty has been recorded in the centre of Lagos politics, the Lagos Island. A popular local politician named Azeez Ashake was shot dead at close range in front of his house at Isale Eko on Saturday September 20th by suspected political thugs.

His son, Usman was also shot but is said to still be alive receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Lagos Island. Azeez Ashake is said to be a strong leader of a particular political group in Lagos Island, and is said to be very influential. ‘Jonathan’s adoption, best thing to happen to Nigeria


ILORIN—Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters to President Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Makanjuola Ajadi, weekend said the adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan as the sole candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 presidential election, was the best thing to happen to Nigeria as a country.

He spoke in an interview with journalists in Ilorin and claimed no party could defeat the PDP in the state, saying Kwarans would vote massively for President Jonathan.
According to him, “There is nobody who can defeat PDP in 2015 election. If it happens, do not call me Senator again, remove Senator from my name because it would not happen. Tell me who are the people remaining in Kwara APC in Kwara State?”

Robbers: How we Raped pastor’s daughter



The heartlessness of some armed robbers who not only steal from their victims, but also kill or maim them, was manifested recently when a gang of armed robbers attacked a pastor of pentecostal church in Abeokuta, Ogun State and shot him in the mouth for daring to plead that his daughter should not be raped.

According to information gathered by Crime Reports, the gang members, including Sodiq Asimiyu (21) a.k.a. Nokia, Lekan a.k.a Goddey, Ayo a.k.a. AY, Seun Ojo a.k.a. Sepe, Kassim and Sunday, among others, assembled at a hemp joint at Ojupa area, Oke-Bode, Abeokuta, on May 31, 2014, from where they took off to a robbery operation, using two Bajaj motorcycles.

Is this Bribery or What? TB Joshua's offer of 50k each to journalists


Many of you may have listened to the tape where TB Joshua had a closed door conversation with some journalists over the collapsed building. He then gave them 50 thousand naira each for fuel money. In totally it was 750,000 naira.

One journalist ,Nicolas Ibekwe, who leaked the conversation said he was the only news refused the gift. He called it bribery. He slammed Fashola for having a closed door meeting with TB Joshua. He said TB Joshua should be charged with murder

Photos from Edo state Church building that collapsed yesterday


Here are some photos from the one-storey church building belonging to Christ Chosen Church of God which collapsed yesterday September 19th. The building, which had been vacated recently by the church following its relocation to a bigger site, was being demolished by 8 workers when it caved in and fell on them. Three people have been confirmed dead while five were rescued from under the rubble.

After two failed attempts in the last three years, Man commits suicide


After two failed attempts to kill himself in the last three years, a man said to be in his 30s named Mundiu (pictured above) finally succeeded in killing himself yesterday September 19th.

According to Sun News, Mundiu killed himself in the hall way of his compound in Ayede-Ekiti community in Oye local government of Ekiti state around in the early hours of yesterday morning.

According to one of his neighbors, Muntiu had always complained of being poor and unsuccessful and was said to be very frustrated. A day before he killed himself, he mentioned to neighbours that they will be witnessing drama on Friday but no one knew he was talking about him killing himself...

50 Turkish hostages being held by Islamic State rescued!!


Almost 50 Turkish hostages being held by Islamic State have been freed overnight.
President Tayyip Erdogan said Turkish intelligence agents had brought the 49 hostages back into the country following a covert rescue operation.
No ransom was paid for their release, Turkish media reports.
The hostages, including Turkey's consul-general, diplomats' children and special forces soldiers, are now in the southern city of Sanliurfa, and will be taken to the capital Ankara today.
In a statement, President Erdogan said: "I thank the prime minister and his colleagues for the pre-planned, carefully calculated and secretly-conducted operation throughout the night.

Girl raped while waiting at bus stop


A teenage girl was put into a car and raped during a terrifying late-night attack.
The 15-year-old was waiting a bus stop in Wallsend, North Tyneside when she was approached and spoken to by a man.
She was put into the front of his car and driven to a street around Hotspur Road, where she was raped the Chronicle reports.
The girl managed to get out of the car and away from the man but has been left traumatised by the ordeal, police said. Detectives are now investigating the attack as they hunt for the man.

A Muslim academic has opened a gay-friendly mosque in South Africa, despite receiving death threats and fierce criticism from parts of the local Muslim community.Women will also be allowed to lead prayers at Taj Hargey's"Open Mosque" in Cape Town.
Mr Hargey, a professor at the Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford in the UK, told the BBC's Newsday programme it was time for a "religious revolution".
"We are opening the mosque for open-minded people, not closed-minded people.In South Africa 20 years ago, there was a peaceful revolution changing from apartheid to democracy and we need to have a similar development in the area of religion," he said

Mum killed her 4-year-old son and commit sucide

 
A mum killed herself and her four-year-old son the day before having to hand him over to her ex-boyfriend after a bitter custody battle, an inquest heard.
Janma Joshi, 40, and Jai were found lying alongside each other on a bed after she torched their flat, deliberately killing them both.
The resentful mum died after pouring petrol around the apartment as she faced the prospect of her son, described as a model child with dreams to become a doctor, living with his dad, Paresh Patel, 43.
Coroner Andre Rebello ruled no evidence was missed to show the unstable pharmacy technician was set to instigate the murder-suicide in Tuebrook, Liverpool, in May.

Babies found dead in train station

 
Two dead newborn babies have been found in a left-luggage locker at Hamburg railway station in Germany.
Police forced open the locker on Thursday morning after travellers  reported a "bad smell" coming from it. The babies were found inside a  suitcase.
It is unclear whether the babies were killed or were stillborn. Later in the day a 39-year-old woman from the town of Bad Schwartau was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

These dedicated photographers headed outdoors - or peeked through their curtains - in the dead of night to capture the incredible electrical storm as it passed over England.
Met Office forecaster Nicola Willis said there had been between 0.4in and 0.8in (10mm and 20mm) of rainfall in just four hours.
She went on: "That is quite a significant amount of rainfall. There have also been quite a few lightning strikes over that period."

Church building collapses in Edo



A one-storey building which served as offices for pastors belonging to Christ Chosen Church of God collapsed in Edo state today. Rescue operation is currently ongoing at the site. Three people are said to have been rescued alive from the collapsed building while two bodies are still trapped under the rubble. More later

Meet the world's tallest 5-year-old boy


Karan Singh stands at an imposing 5ft 7in tall despite being just five years old.
The giant infant made it into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2008 for being the tallest and heaviest baby.
And since then the Indian boy's incredible growth spurt has shown no signs of slowing down.
According to his father Sanjay, Karan was born weighing a whopping 7kg (15.4lbs) and measuring over 2ft (63cm).
The 35-year-old said: "When he was born, he was unusually tall and heavy. We thought that he might be suffering from some kind of medical condition. But the doctors said he was healthy and fine.
"The above normal height and weight even shocked some doctors. Then Guinness recognised Karan as the heaviest and the tallest baby born."

Death Toll of South Africans Rises to 84 from Synagogue Church Building


The number of South Africans who died in the Synagogue church building collapse has increased from 67 to 84.
South Africa’s high commissioner to Nigeria, Lulu Louis Mnguni confirmed the news, IOL News reports.
Mnguni also revealed that 17 people are still unaccounted for, and that they are now presumed dead.
According to reports, 349 South Africans were in Nigeria for Synagogue church-related activities. 265 out of that number were found alive.

FG to ensure safety in schools due to 22nd resumption date..


Abuja, (NAN) – The Federal Ministry of Health on Friday said it had taken adequate steps in collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure safety in schools ahead of the September 22nd resumption date.
Dan Nwomeh, Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Health Minister, made this known in a text message to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He said the Ministry of Education was responsible for the reopening of schools but the Ministry of Health provided advice to the education authorities to ensure safety in schools.
Nwomeh added that the ministry had provided the same support to all relevant bodies, groups and agencies of government in tackling any possible spread of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
