Girl raped while waiting at bus stop


A teenage girl was put into a car and raped during a terrifying late-night attack.
The 15-year-old was waiting a bus stop in Wallsend, North Tyneside when she was approached and spoken to by a man.
She was put into the front of his car and driven to a street around Hotspur Road, where she was raped the Chronicle reports.
The girl managed to get out of the car and away from the man but has been left traumatised by the ordeal, police said. Detectives are now investigating the attack as they hunt for the man.

A Muslim academic has opened a gay-friendly mosque in South Africa, despite receiving death threats and fierce criticism from parts of the local Muslim community.Women will also be allowed to lead prayers at Taj Hargey's"Open Mosque" in Cape Town.
Mr Hargey, a professor at the Muslim Educational Centre of Oxford in the UK, told the BBC's Newsday programme it was time for a "religious revolution".
"We are opening the mosque for open-minded people, not closed-minded people.In South Africa 20 years ago, there was a peaceful revolution changing from apartheid to democracy and we need to have a similar development in the area of religion," he said

A report from SaharaReporters, A simmering tension in Kebbi State between Governor Saidu Nasamu Dakingari and police officers upset about the governor’s assault of his aide de camp, Mohammed Umar, on Saturday, September 9.
Several police sources in the state told a correspondent of Reporters that the assault took place at the Ahmadu Bello International Airport in the state capital, Birnin-Kebbi, at a ceremony marking the airlift of pilgrims. They stated that the unruly governor slapped his ADC in the presence of pilgrims and
other officials at the ceremony.

Mum killed her 4-year-old son and commit sucide

 
A mum killed herself and her four-year-old son the day before having to hand him over to her ex-boyfriend after a bitter custody battle, an inquest heard.
Janma Joshi, 40, and Jai were found lying alongside each other on a bed after she torched their flat, deliberately killing them both.
The resentful mum died after pouring petrol around the apartment as she faced the prospect of her son, described as a model child with dreams to become a doctor, living with his dad, Paresh Patel, 43.
Coroner Andre Rebello ruled no evidence was missed to show the unstable pharmacy technician was set to instigate the murder-suicide in Tuebrook, Liverpool, in May.

Babies found dead in train station

 
Two dead newborn babies have been found in a left-luggage locker at Hamburg railway station in Germany.
Police forced open the locker on Thursday morning after travellers  reported a "bad smell" coming from it. The babies were found inside a  suitcase.
It is unclear whether the babies were killed or were stillborn. Later in the day a 39-year-old woman from the town of Bad Schwartau was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

Photographs have emerged on social media today of the powerful lightning storms that hit the UK overnight.
These dedicated photographers headed outdoors - or peeked through their curtains - in the dead of night to capture the incredible electrical storm as it passed over England.
Met Office forecaster Nicola Willis said there had been between 0.4in and 0.8in (10mm and 20mm) of rainfall in just four hours.
She went on: "That is quite a significant amount of rainfall. There have also been quite a few lightning strikes over that period."

Church building collapses in Edo



A one-storey building which served as offices for pastors belonging to Christ Chosen Church of God collapsed in Edo state today. Rescue operation is currently ongoing at the site. Three people are said to have been rescued alive from the collapsed building while two bodies are still trapped under the rubble. More later

Meet the world's tallest 5-year-old boy


Karan Singh stands at an imposing 5ft 7in tall despite being just five years old.
The giant infant made it into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2008 for being the tallest and heaviest baby.
And since then the Indian boy's incredible growth spurt has shown no signs of slowing down.
According to his father Sanjay, Karan was born weighing a whopping 7kg (15.4lbs) and measuring over 2ft (63cm).
The 35-year-old said: "When he was born, he was unusually tall and heavy. We thought that he might be suffering from some kind of medical condition. But the doctors said he was healthy and fine.
"The above normal height and weight even shocked some doctors. Then Guinness recognised Karan as the heaviest and the tallest baby born."

Death Toll of South Africans Rises to 84 from Synagogue Church Building


The number of South Africans who died in the Synagogue church building collapse has increased from 67 to 84.
South Africa’s high commissioner to Nigeria, Lulu Louis Mnguni confirmed the news, IOL News reports.
Mnguni also revealed that 17 people are still unaccounted for, and that they are now presumed dead.
According to reports, 349 South Africans were in Nigeria for Synagogue church-related activities. 265 out of that number were found alive.

FG to ensure safety in schools due to 22nd resumption date..


Abuja, (NAN) – The Federal Ministry of Health on Friday said it had taken adequate steps in collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure safety in schools ahead of the September 22nd resumption date.
Dan Nwomeh, Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Health Minister, made this known in a text message to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He said the Ministry of Education was responsible for the reopening of schools but the Ministry of Health provided advice to the education authorities to ensure safety in schools.
Nwomeh added that the ministry had provided the same support to all relevant bodies, groups and agencies of government in tackling any possible spread of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

3 journalists & 5 health workers workers killed by villagers in Guinea

 
8 Ebola awareness workers including 3 journalists & 5 health workers were killed by angry villagers on Tuesday Sept. 16th in Wome village, same village where the Ebola virus broke out early this year.

The workers were killed while out creating awareness and distributing flyers about Ebola. According to reports, the villagers, who believe the Ebola outbreak is a fabricated story, began throwing rocks at the delegation who arrived to do disinfection work and educate people about how to prevent Ebola.

Teenage girl assaulted by Her Ex


These pictures show a teenage girl's horrific injuries after her ex-boyfriend allegedly broke into her home and brutally assaulted her.
Sophia Putney-Wilcox, 17, has now shared these pictures after the alleged attack by her ex Adam Shigwadja in an attempt to encourage other domestic abuse victims to come forward.
He is accused of breaking into her bedroom and attacking her with a knife before setting fire to the room. The youngster's brother heard the noise and managed to fight off her attacker with a baseball bat.
The 18-year-old was arrested the day after the attack and cops are now expected to charge him with a number of offences including attempted murder and arson.
Speaking to news website Mlive from her hospital bed, Miss Putney-Wilcox said: 'I'm really grateful to be alive' .

A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a pipe leading from a university lavatory in China.

Her mother, a student at Linyi University in eastern China's Shandong Province, gave birth to her on Sunday and fled the scene, leaving her baby behind.

Police believe that the young woman had hoped to hide the pregnancy, but the baby was discovered after her cries alerted other students.

SA government wants to take full ownership of the seized $9.3m From CAN


If South African government can release the seized private jet, why can they as well release the money back to Nigerian government? I sense corruption here... They should return to money back to Nigeria even if they are satisfied with Nigerian government's explanation or not!

Investigators in South Africa have dismissed Nigerian government’s explanations of the purpose of the $9.3 million cash seized from two Nigerians and an Israeli as “flawed and riddled with discrepancies”. The suspects told South African authorities that the money was meant for the procurement of arms for Nigerian intelligence agencies.

“… Although various explanations about the money were given to the investigating officer, these explanations were flawed and riddled with discrepancies,” the South African prosecution agency said in a statement sent to this newspaper.

15 soldiers failed to report to war front to face 4 year jail term


No fewer than fifteen soldiers who refused orders to report at the war front in Adamawa State have faced a court-martial and have been sentenced to four year jail terms.

The sentencing of the officers, who had been in detention for over three weeks, was done on Wednesday, 18 September, at the 23rd Armoured Brigade, in Yola by the military command.

The men were found guilty of insubordination and refusal to face the Boko Haram insurgents in the northern parts of the state.
A military source disclosed that the affected soldiers were those who ran away when Boko Haram attacked their duty posts and fled back to the cantonment.

Catholic Bishops: Reason we pulled out of CAN



The Christian Association of Nigerian, CAN, an umbrella body for the country’s teeming Christians, descended into full-blown crisis Wednesday with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria making public its decision to pull out of the fold over the way the Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor-led executive is running the association.

The Catholic bishop’s action is perhaps the first time in the association’s 37-year history that any of its five blocs would pull out over alleged poor leadership and politicization of the association. CAN was formed in 1976 by five Christian blocs in the country: the Christian Council of Nigeria; the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria; Organisation of African Instituted Churches, and the Evangelical Fellowship of West Africa.

Governor Fashola hosted five survivors Ebola Survivors


Last night,Governor Fashola hosted five survivors of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) at the State House, Alausa.They recounted their ordeals and how God saved them.

Of the visiting survivors, three of them – Dr. Morris Ibeawuchi, Dr. Adaora Igonoh and Dr. Akinniyi Fadipe – are medical practitioners with the First Consultants Medical Centre, the Lagos-based hospital that treated the index case, the late Patrick Sawyer, who imported the virus into Nigeria from his home country, Liberia.

The two others were Mr. Dennis Echelonu, who lost his two-month pregnant wife Mrs. Justina Echelonu Obioma to the virus and Mrs. Kelechi Enemuo, whose husband died from the disease in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.Recounting his experience, Ibeawuchi acknowledged that he was the doctor, who received the index case, Sawyer, when ECOWAS officials brought him to First Consultants.He said:

Nigeria Police force (NPF) refutes Amnesty International report


The attention of the Nigeria Police has been drawn to an on-line publication entitled ‘Welcome to Hell-Fire’: torture and other ill-treatment in Nigeria.

While we do not question the freedom of Amnesty International to earn its relevance and bread, the Nigeria Police takes serious exceptions to some blatant falsehoods and innuendoes contained in that report.

For one, it smacks of indecency and intemperate language to liken our dear nation Nigeria, to hell fire. That cannot be true. We believe that Nigeria is a growing nation, green and largely peaceful.

Boko Haram member captured, 60 members killed by military


A high ranking member of terror group, Boko Haram, was yesterday September 17th captured by the military after a failed attempted attack on Konduga in Borno state. The sect members actually made a second attempt into Konduga after the military celebrated its victory against them yesterday afternoon. The captured terror leader is currently at a military facility where he is receiving treatment.

In a related development, one soldier was killed after an ambush was laid by the sect members in Benishek, Borno state. Four motorcycles were captured from the terror group after the attack. Tweet below

38 year old South African football coach arrested for drug trafficking in Nigeria


38 year old South African football coach, Steven Darlugar (pictured), was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for drug trafficking.

The married father of one was arrested during screening before boarding an Arik Air flight to South Africa. He is said to have neatly packaged the drugs which tested positive for methamphetamine in a compartment before it was discovered by officials.

Dead bodies of three children were this morning discovered abandoned at two points along 2nd East Circular Road in Benin, Edo state by unknown persons.

Two of the bodies which were already decomposing, were wrapped and ‎put in a cardboard box and placed under a palm tree along the road while the third, a girl of about a year and two months, was dumped less than 30 meters away from the others along the road by Uwa street junction, Pm News reports.

A member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Keston Okoro, was yesterday September 16th sent out of the floor of the Assembly for improper dressing. Leadership reports that House Speaker Peter Onwunsanya gave the order after a member of the house, Daniel Mayuku raised an objection to the mode of dressing of the lawmaker, saying that his dressing fell short of the rules and regulations of the House.
