LASU professor of Sports Psychology, Ademola Onifade Passes Away

Lagos, Sept.16, 2014 (NAN) A professor of Sports Psychology, Ademola Onifade, of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, on Tuesday died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
Onifade, who had been receiving treatment at LASUTH, after he slumped at his FESTAC residence on Sept. 12, died on Monday night.

Adekunle Idris, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), LASU chapter, confirmed his death to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

NAN reports that until his death, Onifade, in his late 50s, was a professor in the Department of Physical and Health Education...MORE...

The man you see in this pic is being accused of sexually molesting his own 5 year old daughter (pictured right). This happened in the Italuwo community in Ikorodu Road, Lagos. I don't have much details but according to a source, a neighbour suspected the man was assaulting the little girl and alerted people in the area. When confronted, he denied it but the girl confirmed she'd been molested. He was beaten and taken to the community security post. This pic was taken as he was being interrogated.

Ebola: America to send 3,000 troops to west Africa to stop the spread of the deadly disease

US President Barack Obama today announced he will send 3,000 troops to help tackle Ebola as part of a renewed effort to stop the spread of the deadly disease.
His response to the crisis also includes plans to train thousands of health care workers, establish a military control centre for coordination and build 17 treatment centres with a goal of 1,700 beds in west Africa.
It came as new figures by the World Health Organization showed Ebola has killed more than 2,500 people while another 5,000 have been infected...MORE..

Generator fumes has killed a man, his wife and all his 3 children in Ipoyewa community of Ikorodu, Lagos. The bodies of the family was discovered by neighbours last Friday September 12th in their home. All five suffocated to death after inhaling fumes from a generator which they'd kept in their room. According to neighbours, the man bought the generator just two days before the unfortunate incident and was afraid it will be stolen if left outside so he kept it inside his 2-room apartment.

Goldfish under going lifesaving surgery and is expected to live for 20 years

A goldfish who underwent life-saving brain surgery is expected to make a full recovery.
The treasured pet, named George, went under the knife after developing a tumour which prevented him from eating or swimming properly.
Owner Pip Joyce told Australia's 7 News he was delighted that the operation, believed to have cost several hundred dollars, was successful....MORE..
Vet Dr Tristan Rich, of Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, said: "It's a very fiddly procedure and you have to be very careful about blood loss."
Before vets could operate, the 10-year-old fish was sedated in a bucket of water laced with anaesthetic.
Gelatine sponge was then used to control the bleeding during the 45-minute procedure.
Mr Rich said if George can stay healthy, he is expected to live for another 20 years.

Ebola: Nigeria and 4 African countries to get 20 million pairs of gloves - Malaysia Prime Minister:

Kuala Lumpur (dpa/NAN) Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak, said Nigeria and four African countries would receive 20 million pairs of medical gloves to fight Ebola.

The other benefiting countries are Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He said on Monday in Kuala Lumpur that the donation was in response to the complaints by the medical experts, that the shortage of medical rubber gloves was a key problem in combating the outbreak....MORE..

TB Joshua: Boko Haram attacked Church building!!

The founder and General overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet T. B. Joshua has said that Boko Haram may be responsible for the collapse of a six-storey building in the church premises.

Joshua, who told members of his church on Sunday not to be afraid, said the attack was targeted at him and not at them. The prophet made it clear that the collapse of the six-storey building at around 11.45am on Friday which led to the death of no fewer than 16 persons was a Boko Haram attack.

The popular Prophet said: “I received a phone call immediately I got here, just 10 minutes later when I was in the church, that there was a jet hovering over the mountain where I had just left. They said it was hovering at a close range. Teen jailed for five years for raping six-year-old boy

A teenager who raped a six-year-old schoolboy has been jailed for five years.
The 16-year-old, from South Tyneside, was found guilty of two charges of rape, relating to one incident last year.
The teenage attacker, who cannot be named, had denied the attack, which meant the young victim had to give evidence at a trial.
