A couple have been jailed for neglecting their son so badly that he went blind.
Idle Gillian Hendry and Craig Dick, both 34, kept the 12-year-old boy and his two-year-old sister in a filthy, stinking, fly-infested house in Thornaby.
The boy went blind in his left eye from cataracts because they failed to take him for hospital appointments that could have saved his sight.
He also became increasingly crippled with arthritis until his doctors called in social services so they could give him the treatment he desperately needed.
When social workers went to the house on 21 August last year the couple would not let them inside, the Evening Gazette reports.
They returned with the police who were shocked by what they found, prosecutor David Crook told Teesside Crown Court.....MORE....

Instagram's 'richest teenager' JAILED for selling stolen iPhone on Craigslist site

A teenager known as the 'richest kid on Instagram' has been jailed for selling a stolen iPhone online.

Param Sharma, 18, who boasted about his wealth on Instagram with pictures of himself with multiple iPhones, was locked up at the Santa Rita jail after being handed a 90-day sentence on August 18.

The Californian, known as 'Lavish P', claims it was someone else's iPhone he was flogging on the classified ads site Craigslist.

But police said the phone was stolen and Sharma is now unable to cover his $30,000 bond.....MORE...

The woman found hanging from the tree in the early hours of today September 12th on Bankole Street, Isheri-Oke, Lagos has been identified as a Liberian woman simply called Kate.

According to Punch, the woman was a worker in a sachet water factory before she killed herself. A resident of the area said people in the area started to distance themselves from her after the outbreak of Ebola in Lagos which was brought into the country by a Liberian. The devastated parents of a teenager killed at a petrol station have told how their daughter dreamed of becoming a nurse.
Eilish Herron, 17, died after being run over as she filled up her car, the Daily Record reports.
It’s understood she was trapped under an 81-year-old driver’s vehicle. Police are investigating if he put the automatic in reverse by mistake at Asda Linwood, near Paisley, on Wednesday afternoon.
Yesterday, her parents John and Shanneal told how their daughter – a star netball player and promising healthcare student – would be deeply missed by them and younger brother and sister, Niall, 15, and Neave, 12.

Film actor Sir Donald Sinden has died at the age 90

Theatre and film actor Sir Donald Sinden has died at the age 90.

His son said Sir Sinden, who made his name on stage as a Shakespearean actor, had passed away at his home after a long illness.

As well as his stage work, Sir Sinden also had more than 70 credits for film and TV productions stretching from the late 1940s to now.

He had been battling prostate cancer over several years and his death, just weeks before his 91st birthday, at his home in Romney Marsh, Kent, has been described as a "huge loss" by his family.

His son, actor and film director Marc Sinden, said in a statement: "My father has finished dying. He suffered for a few years from prostate cancer which slowly spread.....MORE...

Teachers threathen to go on strike over school reopen...
