Boxing Legend, Muhammad Ali can't utter a single word

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali recently missed the official premiere of his biographical documentary due to his health being in serious decline..

The champion  was not present at the recent premiere of a documentary about his life entitled: I Am Ali. According to his brother, Rahman Ali, Parkinson’s disease has taken such a serious toll on Muhammad’s health that he cannot utter a single word, nor can he leave his home in Arizona that he shares with his fourth wife, Lonnie.

In a Sunday People report, Rahman said: “I have not been able to talk to my brother about this because he is sick. He doesn’t speak too well.
But he is proud that we are here for him. He has given this film his blessing.”

As the three-time heavyweight champion of the world, Ali was almost impossible to beat, but his two-decade-long fight against the degenerative brain condition is one battle he cannot win, his family says.

Ali hasn’t made many public appearances for some time. In fact, the world probably last saw him at the London Olympics in 2012 when he was one of the flag bearers. The former champ already looked like a shadow of his former fit and strong self, and sat on a chair during most of the opening ceremony. He recently attended the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian awards, held in Louisville at the end of last month.

I Am Ali tells the life story of the boxer using his ‘audio journals” from over the years, with a very strong focus of his family life. Although aware of the documentary, Ali couldn’t take part due to ill health.

Former opponents and renowned boxers such as Mike Tyson and George Foreman are some of the famous sportsmen featured in the documentary along with his children and family.

One of Ali’s seven daughters, Maryum, said she was confident the documentary would have been appreciated by her father, adding that they were planning to show it to him later in the month.
