Prison boss gets 7 years extra for obtaining money by false pretense

EFCC on Friday 28, 2014, secured the conviction of a top prison officer as Justice J.J Majebi of the Kogi State High Court, Okene, convicted and sentenced Joseph Friday Idachaba, Deputy Controller of Prisons, to 7 years imprisonment for offences bordering on obtaining money by false pretense.
The convict is to pay the sum of N1, 403,114.09 in restitution to Nigeria Prison Service.
Arraigned in 2012 on a three-count charge, the convict was found guilty on count three of the charge by the trial judge, who, however, acquitted him on two remaining counts.
Count three of the charge reads: "That you Joseph Friday Idachaba (m) being a deputy comptroller of Nigeria Prisons Service, and Onoja D. Ruth (IP) also a staff of Nigeria Prison Service, sometime between July, 2012 to February 2013 at Lokoja, Kogi State did with intent to defraud obtained N1,403,114.09 only from the Federal Government of Nigeria via the Nigeria Prison Service with

Femi Kuti: Two out of the five children i have are not mine
King of Afrobeat, Femi Kuti says he recently found out that two out of the 5 children he always thought were his, weren't. In an interview with Encomium mag, Femi said a DNA test conducted on a boy and a girl named Tosin and Dupe who were born after his first son, Made, showed he's not their biological father.
"I did a DNA test and was told two of the children are not mine. The first two (after Made), a boy and a girl. It is very serious. I never knew somebody could give you what is not yours. I’ve three boys now. I can’t father children I was tricked to believe I am their father,” he said

Report: Two Indian girls found hanging from tree were not murdered, but committed suicide
Two Indian teenage girls who were found hanging from a tree in May (read here) were not murdered or raped, that is what The Indian Central Bureau of Investigation claimed today.
The cousins, 15 year old Pushpa and 14 year old Murti had gone missing on May 27th after they told their family they wanted to go use the toilet in a nearby field. They were later found hanging from a mango tree in the remote village in Uttar Pradesh.
The girls were initially believed to have been gang-raped and murdered by five Indian men but the CBI says that's not what happened.
"Yes, we have cracked the Badaun case. Our probe found that the two girls had committed suicide and weren’t murdered,” CBI director Ranjit Sinha said...

Man rapes and beats his 3 year old to death
Pascal Kaufmann who is 19 year old (pictured above) has been arrested for allegedly raping and beating his 3 year old step-daughter to death, Charlie Brame died in hospital on Monday Nov. 24th. Police say she died from severe brain trauma & had signs of recent 'sexual & aggravated abuse'
According to Orlando Sentinel, the little girl was rushed to the hospital after Kaufmann reported she'd stopped moving at their home on Saturday November 22nd. When paramedics arrived at the home, the little girl was struggling to breathe, with bruises covering her back and head.
Kaufmann told police the girl fell from a bed when he was babysitting her while the girl's mother was at work. The teen had moved to the US from Germany in August after meeting Charlie's mum on the internet. The couple had only married about a week ago.
Police arrested Kauffman after doctors revealed the girl had been penetrated and the wound to the back of the head inflicted..
"It was unlikely that she could receive such severe head trauma from falling out of the bed. Her injuries were "more consistent with blunt trauma to the back of the skull." the police said
The little girl's father told reporters he'd been wary of Kauffman being around his child and had begged his ex never to leave his child alone with her new husband. He said he'd been trying to remove his little girl from the home before she was killed. He said

26 year old woman killed by son in Oklahoma
Woman who is 26 year old Crista Engles (pictured above) was accidentally shot dead by her 3 year old son at their home as she was attending to her 1 year old daughter.
According NBC News, the little boy shot and killed his mother after finding a loaded semi-automatic handgun in their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma yesterday November 25th.
The woman's mother who also lives in the house, but wasn't present when the horrible accident occurred, came home and found the 3 year old and 1 year old covered in blood and crying, this is according to Tulsa police. She found her daughter unresponsive beside her children and thought she'd been killed by an intruder. She immediately called the police.

Mr. Obasanjo: National Assembly is an assembly of thieves, looters
On Wednesday former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, lampooned the National Assembly, saying it is largely an assemblage of looters and thieves.
, who was speaking at the public presentation of the autobiography of Justice Mustapha Akanbi, in Abuja, regretted that every aspect of Nigeria’s national life is riddled with corruption.
However, he said there were a few exceptions and people who stand out and would not succumb to the scourge of sleaze, even in the federal legislature.
In a speech he delivered at the public presentation of “The Story Of My Two Worlds; Challenges, Experiences And Achievements” written by Justice Akanbi, the pioneer chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission, the former president said the National Assembly, which he said is shrouding its corruption in the opaque nature of its budget, has damaged its capacity to oversight the executive.

Movie marketer, Femi Adelakun dies
Yoruba movie marketer and chairman of Zentury Pictures, Femi Adelakun, died suddenly today November 26th in his home. Adelakun, who was also a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly complained that he wasn't feeling well when he suddenly fell. He was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

A mobile policeman and another person in Bayelsa State were today killed by Unknown gunmen
Acting Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa Police Command, Mr. Rowland Eboka, said the unidentified deceased cop, was a Corporal.
He said the Corporal was shot dead at about 7am on Monday on his way to work.
It, was, however learn from residents of the Akenpai Area that the deceased Mobile police Officer, who was from Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state, was shot dead at a close range.
Also, unknown gunmen, suspected to be sea pirates, have killed another person in the state.
Sources said the suspected pirates, numbering five, shot the victim dead in an attack on a passenger boat last Sunday along the Akassa-Yenagoa waterways.
It was learn that the bandits, who wore masks, also carted away valuables including money, handsets and the fuel line of the boat.

China: Many killed in coal mine fire
A fire at a coal mine in northeast China has killed at least 24 workers, state media has reported.
The fire early on Wednesday at the mine in Liaoning province has left not less than 52 injured, Xinhua news agency said, quoting the state-owned Fuxin Coal Corporation.
There were no immediate details on the cause of the fire but mining accidents are common in China, the world’s largest consumer of coal.

Paris jewelry thieves in police custody
One of the world’s most prestigious jewelry stores has been foiled, and both would-be thieves are in police custody after an attempted escape amidst a flurry of security forces, according to police, eyewitnesses and French media.
Two robbers entered the landmark Cartier jewelry store located on Champs Elysees in Paris on Tuesday evening, according to police spokesman Luc Poignant speaking to CNN affiliate BFMTV.
While exiting the jewelry store, the thieves fired on police forces, says Poignant, who returned fire on the pair of robbers.

Ebola: Due to known payment of allowance, Burial workers dumpes bodies on street
Workers in Sierra Leone have dumped bodies in the street due to failure to pay bonuses for handling Ebola victims.
Residents said up to 15 corpses had been abandoned in the eastern town of Kenema, three of them at a hospital entrance to stop people entering. The head of the district Ebola Response Team, Abdul Wahab Wan, said on Tuesday that the bodies included those of two babies.
A spokesman for the striking workers, who asked not to be identified, said they had not been paid their weekly hazard allowance for seven weeks.

The driver was said to be on top speed and lost control of his vehicle when a tyre burst. Fortunately he was alone and he survived the accident and some good Samaritans rushed him to the hospital.

The worlds famous Tower Bridge glass shatters after visitor drops a beer bottle..
World famous Tower Bridge less than two weeks ago, has been smashed after a beer bottle was dropped onto it.
Tower Bridge, which offers visitors a unique, if slightly terrifying view of the road-bridge and River Thames, 138 feet below, was shattered when a member of the catering staff working at the venue dropped an empty bottle while carrying a tray.
The glass floor, which was only unveiled on Nov 10, cracked and then shattered, leaving Tower Bridge bosses with no choice but to cover and close the section of the walkway affected.

Fire breaks out at Tottenham Hotspur's new £400m stadium
A fire that gutted the last business standing in the way of Tottenham Hotspur's £400 million stadium redevelopment plans may have been started deliberately.
A report from telegraph Police said it was "too early" to determine if the blaze was the result of an arson attack, although the firm's owners are said to have received "bomb threats" and sinister calls on a "day-to-day basis".

The clash was averted by the swift action of the police where seven suspects were arrested. They are Chinazo Amaechi, Nna Chisom, Solomon Ossai, Regimus Igwelatu, Monday Jackson, Chinonso Fordima and Tony Amanya while others fled.

35 year old Nigerian man has been sentenced to death
35 year old Nigerian man has been sentenced to death today November 25th by the Malaysian High Court for trafficking in 251.66 gm of methapethamine.
Abuchi Ngwoke, was arrested in May 2012 at a Malaysian airport. He had swallowed the drugs.
The High court judge described Ngwoke's testimony about swallowing gemstones in Nigeria before traveling to Malaysia as absurd.

Ghanaian socialite caught with 12.5kg of cocaine worth $5m
Ghanaian socialite, Nayele Ametefe also known as Ruby Adu-Gyamfi, who is said to be very highly placed in Ghana was arrested at Heathrow Airport, London on November 10th for drug trafficking.
Nayele was arrested shortly after arriving on a flight from Accra, Ghana, carrying 12 kilograms of cocaine worth £3.5million ($5 million) and £6, 063 cash. She was also reported to have been in possession of multiple passports including a Ghanaian passport and an Austrian passport.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned two suspected fraudsters, Gabriel Osereme Xavi (a.k.a. Collins Page) and Aikhaituamen Best Junior Cyril, before Justice E.F. Ikponmwen of the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin, on charges bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.
While Xavi was slammed with a 12-count charge, Aikhaituamen was docked on 6-count charge. Read full below
