Today at about 12noon, a group of villagers in Kamba, Kebbi State, were about to lynch a national of Niger Republic, named Adamu Gaya, on suspicion of involvement in an alleged ritual murder of a young girl. The Police rescued and brought him into protective custody.

Human Traffic Kingpin Suspect Arrested in Enugu State

Enugu (NAN) – The Nigeria Immigration Service, Enugu State Command, says it has nabbed one Koffi Hassan, a Sierra Leonean, who specializes in trafficking women out of Nigeria for prostitution.

The Immigration Comptroller, Bashir Ismail, disclosed this on Wednesday in an interview with NAN in Enugu.

He said that Hassan, an alleged human traffic kingpin, who had been on their wanted list, was arrested following a tip-off.

“Human trafficking has been a challenge in this part of the country.

“Just last month we succeeded in arresting one notorious human trafficker called Koffi, who has been involved in human trafficking of women and involving them in prostitution.

“We were able to arrest that kingpin. We have now forwarded him for prosecuting. After prosecution we will definitely repatriate him...

Kigali (dpa/NAN) – The President of the Rwandan Senate, Jean-Damascene Ntawukuriryayo, resigned on Wednesday after he was accused of incompetence.

He was succeeded by his deputy, Bernard Makuza.

Ntawukuriryayo cited personal reasons for the decision to stand down.

He resigned after senators accused him of creating administrative blockages in the upper house of parliament, and of illegally hiring staff.

Ebola: Pres. Jonathan on Sept. 22 Schools’ Resumption Date

Abuja (NAN) – President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday defended the Sept. 22 school resumption date, saying there was currently no case of the disease in the country to warrant extension of the holiday.

Jonathan spoke to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, when he reacted to the threat by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to embark on strike over government’s refusal to shift the date.

He said that the disease had been effectively contained, adding that keeping schools closed would send a wrong message to the international community about the situation in the country.

LASU professor of Sports Psychology, Ademola Onifade Passes Away

Lagos, Sept.16, 2014 (NAN) A professor of Sports Psychology, Ademola Onifade, of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, on Tuesday died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
Onifade, who had been receiving treatment at LASUTH, after he slumped at his FESTAC residence on Sept. 12, died on Monday night.

Adekunle Idris, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), LASU chapter, confirmed his death to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

The man you see in this pic is being accused of sexually molesting his own 5 year old daughter (pictured right). This happened in the Italuwo community in Ikorodu Road, Lagos. I don't have much details but according to a source, a neighbour suspected the man was assaulting the little girl and alerted people in the area. When confronted, he denied it but the girl confirmed she'd been molested. He was beaten and taken to the community security post. This pic was taken as he was being interrogated.

Ebola: America to send 3,000 troops to west Africa to stop the spread of the deadly disease

US President Barack Obama today announced he will send 3,000 troops to help tackle Ebola as part of a renewed effort to stop the spread of the deadly disease.
His response to the crisis also includes plans to train thousands of health care workers, establish a military control centre for coordination and build 17 treatment centres with a goal of 1,700 beds in west Africa.

A goldfish who underwent life-saving brain surgery is expected to make a full recovery.
The treasured pet, named George, went under the knife after developing a tumour which prevented him from eating or swimming properly.

Vet Dr Tristan Rich, of Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, said: "It's a very fiddly procedure and you have to be very careful about blood loss."
Before vets could operate, the 10-year-old fish was sedated in a bucket of water laced with anaesthetic.
Gelatine sponge was then used to control the bleeding during the 45-minute procedure.
Mr Rich said if George can stay healthy, he is expected to live for another 20 years.

Ebola: Nigeria and 4 African countries to get 20 million pairs of gloves - Malaysia Prime Minister:

Kuala Lumpur (dpa/NAN) Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak, said Nigeria and four African countries would receive 20 million pairs of medical gloves to fight Ebola.
