Liberia’s Health System Collapses as Ebola Spreads
Washington DC (Reuters/NAN) – Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, said on Friday in Washington that health care system in Liberia has collapsed over the Ebola epidemic.
Ngafuan said hospitals were closing down and medical workers fleeing from the Ebola epidemic, which is poised to worsen.
“People are dying from common diseases because the health care system is collapsing. It is going to have a long-term impact, even after this crisis is behind us.

18 year old househelp kills his boss' 78 year old mother
The Nigerian Police have arrested an 18 year old boy, Hounvenou Yavine, a national of the Republic of Benin, for slitting the throat of his boss’ mother, Mrs. Mariam Abiola.
According to Punch, Yavine was brought into Lagos in April 2014 by his elder sister on the request of late Mrs Abiola's daughter. He was then taken to the Ikeja home of the late 78 year old woman to serve as her househlp as well as an assistant at her alcohol distribution shop. A month after his arrival, her home was demolished by the state government, prompting her to temporarily relocate to her daughter's home at the Ijaiye Low Cost Housing Estate, Pen Cinema Lagos where his primary assignment was to take care of her and also clean her daughter's house.

Report Shows that African Women Spent $1.1 Billion on their Hair Last Year

A new market research by Euromonitor International has revealed that last year (2013), women in Nigeria, South Africa and Cameroon alone spent a whopping $1.1 billion on their hair, Reuters reports.
It also includes purchases on shampoos, relaxers and hair lotions.

Ebola an International Health Emergency-WHO
The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola Epidemic an International Health Emergency, stating that "a coordinated international response is deemed essential to stop and reverse the international spread of Ebola" which has killed almost a 1000 people in four west African countries.
At an emergency meeting today August 8th, the Geneva based UN health agency said the declaration of an international emergency will help in raising the level of vigilance for transmission of the virus.
WHO advised countries identified to have been infested by the deadly Ebola virus - Guinea, Nigeria, Sierra Lieone and Liberia - to declare a state of emergency and that there should be no general ban on international travel or trade on these countries. Continue...

The Ebola virus has spread to Europe. A Spanish priest infected with the virus in Liberia arrived in Madrid for treatment today. 75 year old Miguel Pajares (pictured above) had been working as a missionary in Liberia when he tested positive for Ebola at the San Jose de Monrovia Hospital in Monrovia. A medically-equipped military jet was sent to Liberia yesterday to repatriate Pajares.

Report: Late Liberian Victim Was Under Surveillance, Escaped Quarantine Before Coming to Nigeria
A new report has surfaced about the late Liberian Ebola victim Patrick Sawyer knew he had the deadly virus and escaped being quarantined.
This Day Newspapers is reporting that Sawyer who was Nigeria’s index case for Ebola virus was under surveillance by the Liberian health authorities, even though he still managed to board a flight heading out of the country.
