Russian criminals steal 1.2 billion passwords


Russian criminals have stolen 1.2 billion Internet user names and passwords, amassing what could be the largest collection of stolen digital credentials in history, a respected security firm said Tuesday.

The firm, Milwaukee-based Hold Security, didn't reveal the identities of the targeted websites, citing nondisclosure agreements and a desire to prevent existing vulnerabilities from being more widely exploited.

Ebola death toll rises: 932 confirmed, World Health Organization says


Global fears of Ebola spread Wednesday after two more countries reported deaths of citizens they suspect had contracted the disease in West Africa.

Nigeria reported that a nurse died after treating someone believed to have contracted Ebola in Liberia. And Saudi Arabia reported that a man died, apparently of the virus, after a trip to Sierra Leone. The World Health Organization did not immediately confirm the deaths.

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris says Ebola situation in Lagos is 'extremely dire.'
At a press briefing held in Lagos this afternoon, the Commissioner said the Nigerian nurse who died of the Ebola virus died at exactly 2.06pm yesterday in Lagos. He said Health officials have begun 'secondary contact tracing", that is, tracking down people who came in contact with people who had direct contact with the late Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, the first case of Ebola virus in Lagos.

Spanish Priest Contracts Ebola Virus in Liberia


Madrid (dpa/NAN) ― The Spanish government said that an air force plane was leaving Madrid on Wednesday to pick up a Spanish priest who has tested positive for the Ebola virus in Liberia.

The Spanish Defence Ministry said the plane was leaving Madrid to pick up the patient, in line with the strict security and quarantine guidelines stipulated by the World Health Organisation (WHO)

The film stars Seun Akindele and rising new talent Yvonne Jegede, who recently released her new shoot.

“Banning of Hijab in Nigeria is Unconstitutional” – NBA


Abuja (NAN) ― The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) on Monday advised the Federal Government against banning Hijab (Muslim female headscarves), saying such proposal would be unconstitutional.

Okey Wali, the President of the association, rather urged the government to find a lasting and peaceful solution to the security challenges threatening the country.

Wali told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that placing a ban on wearing Hijab due to the recent spate of attacks by female suicide bombers was not a positive and lasting strategy to curbing insecurity.

A sick mum has been jailed for having sex with her 12-year-old son - while her depraved partner watched from abroad on a webcam.

The 39-year-old mum wore headphones so her controlling lover could direct her as she abused the boy in their bedroom.

The traumatised victim told police he could hear his mum being told what to do as she gave him a "sex lesson".

The sickening offence came to light when the mum made a complaint about her partner to a domestic abuse charity - and "blurted out" that she had abused the eldest of her two sons.

U.S to Support Nigeria & other African Countries’ Elections with $51 Million for 5 Years


Abuja (NAN) ― The U.S Government on Tuesday said it would provide $51 million (about N8.4 billion) to support credible elections in Nigeria in 2015 and other electoral process in the country in the next five years.

This is contained in the Fact Sheet issued by the White House in Washington DC, which highlighted U.S support for democratic institutions, good governance and human rights in Africa.

The publication was released just as the US-Africa Leaders Summit being attended by 50 leaders from the continent, including President Goodluck Jonathan, began in Washington DC.

Keshi hands NFF acceptance notice


Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has sent in a formal notice to the Nigeria Football Federation accepting to continue as the country’s coach. The letter was submitted to the NFF Secretariat in Abuja on Monday.

A person with detail knowledge of the transaction as reported by AfricanFootball.com confirmed to The PUNCH that the letter was brought to the office by a relative of Keshi who also works as his aide simply identified as Ado.

The NFF three-man committee asked to open contract talks with Keshi formally sent him a letter of intent and it was this letter that Keshi replied to.

Amnesty International releases Gruesome Video Implicating Nigerian Military | Defence issues Statement

Amnesty International claims that the Nigerian military has committed atrocities in the North-East in its fight against Boko Haram.

In the video released today, the military is recorded on camera abusing civilians who are believed to be suspected members of the Islamist militant sect.

The video was obtained by numerous sources during a visit by a rep for Amnesty International. It provides fresh evidence of war crimes including extrajudicial executions, and other serious human rights violations

In one part of the video, detainees are seen having their throats slit one by one and dumped in mass graves by men who appear to be members of the Nigerian military and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)

1 killed in Johannesburg, South Africa, Earthquake


A 5.3 earthquake this morning August 5th shook buildings in Johannesburg and surrounding areas.. killing one person and injuring at least 3 people. The tremor which lasted just one minute reportedly broke glasses, cracked walls and aftershocks were felt by many.
