Check out the list of richest football coaches & highest earning footballer

Four time World Footballer of the Year Lionel Messi is the highest-paid footballer in the world. He took home nearly $1.4million-a-week last year in wages and sponsorship deals.


The Argentina and Barcelona star earned a staggering $72million in 201. He made about $38million as his club salary and the rest were from lucrative endorsements with the likes of adidas, FIFA 15 and Turkish Airlines.


This makes him richer than his arch-rival, Cristiano Ronaldo who brought in about $60million in 2014. This is according to the latest France Football magazine rich list. See the rest after the cut..

Akwa Ibom Stadium gets nominated for global award


 According to a report from Premiumtimesng Nigeria’s most modern stadium, the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, has been nominated for the 2014 Stadium of the Year award.
 
According to a press release from StadiumDB, which keeps a database of stadia worldwide, the newly built Stadium in Uyo, nicknamed “Nest of Champions”, is among venues nominated for the award.

A breakdown reveals that the current edition includes 32 major stadiums opened in 2014. Eight are located in Brazil, three in the USA, while Hungary and Poland each have two nominees.

“It’s great to see a new stadium for Nigeria to be proud of. Its white outer cladding and illumination also make it stand out globally and become a true landmark for Uyo,” Grzegorz Kaliciak, founder of StadiumDB.com, organizer of the competition, said.

Chelsea Footballer Star John Obi Mikel is becomes a British Citizen


After Nigerian International/Chelsea FC footballer John Obi MikelIn  applied for British Citizenship in 2014. It was revealed This week that Mikel is now officially a British Citizen!

According to the Sun Newspaper – “Mikel was issued a Brit­ish passport last week, and he is very happy to be in the possession of the passport”

Mikel’s rep also added that “That’s very good news because he will no longer be counted as a foreign player in the Chelsea squad. All the obstacles that would have prevented him playing in Europe have been eliminated, especially in Italy.”

Fans of Chelsea need not worry about losing Mikel this season, his rep confirmed “Mikel is not leaving Chelsea in the January transfer window. He will only think about his future at the end of this season.

Photos: Football referee beaten badly by fans in Nigeria


A report from Sunrise Sports Executive producer, Toyin Ibitoye, a center referee named Charles Ozigbo  was assaulted by Nigerian football fans during a match between Rangers Bee of Kaduna and Kwara United of Ilorin in Abuja yesterday December 19th. The referee was reportedly attacked after he gave a penalty to one of the clubs. The supporters of the opposing club entered the football field and attacked the referee bringing the match to a abrupt halt.

Swiss-Nigerian footballer Steven Ukoh has nationality to joined the super Eagle of Nigerian


FIFA, has cleared former Swiss U-20 international, Steven Archibong Effiong Ukoh, to play for the Super Eagles at senior level. The versatile midfielder, born on June 19, 1991 to Nigerian parents in Berne, Switzerland, currently plays for Biel-Bienne FC in the European country but has now switched his nationality to Nigerian, to enable him play for Super Eagles.


A statement issued in Abuja by Ademola Olajire, Assistant Director, Communications, Nigeria Football Association (NFA)

“Ukoh was cleared to switch his nationality from Switzerland to Nigeria. The versatile midfielder, born on 19 June, 1991 to Nigerian parents in Berne, Switzerland, currently plays for Biel-Bienne FC in the European country. His father, Archibong Ukoh and mother Helene, hail from Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom’’.

Henry the fourth all time goal scorer in English league has retired


Former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry has announced his retirement from football after a trophy-laden 20-year career. The Frenchman, who also played for Monaco, Juventus, and Barcelona, scored 175 Premier League goals and is fourth on the list of all-time scorers.

Henry won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with the Gunners, where he played between 1999 and 2007.

He added the Champions League trophy with Barcelona in 2009 and returned to Arsenal for four matches on loan from the Red Bulls in 2012, coming on as a substitute to score the winner against Leeds in the third round of the FA Cup.

Fire breaks out at Tottenham Hotspur's new £400m stadium


A fire that gutted the last business standing in the way of Tottenham Hotspur's £400 million stadium redevelopment plans may have been started deliberately.

A report from telegraph Police said it was "too early" to determine if the blaze was the result of an arson attack, although the firm's owners are said to have received "bomb threats" and sinister calls on a "day-to-day basis".
